I said to a Bro, who asked me about HR’s view towards layoff, that termination can be a positive sign of a company’s people culture
Bear with me
When a company decides not to pursue further journey with a person after a series of consideration-discussions-whatever can happen between the employee, team leader, HR, or whoever, it’s either the employee or the company who open the exit door.
If the person wants to stay on the job, the company must take the action.
Which one shows more compassion and recognition:
1 Pushing the person to leave, transferring the employee to a role, department, or location the person is unwilling to work without giving any opportunities to share their concerns. Or
2 Asking the employee to leave while honoring their previous dedication by providing them their rights and supports
As an employee, I understand that company can terminate me one day. I want my organization to treat me with respect and fulfill my rights. If one day I am asked to leave, under any circumstances, I will be grateful to leave the firm with clear communication, severance pay, and positive gesture/support from my organization
That’s why a termination, a PROPER one, is a positive sign of a company’s people culture
